Reuniting Children and Young People with Their Birth Families

November 11 @ 14:00 - 15:30

This webinar will explore the messages from research into what can promote positive outcomes for children returning home.

Wherever it is possible, the primary objective in terms of permanence for children in the care system is to reunite them with their birth families. However, research has consistently found that this is a particularly difficult and sensitive process. If not managed effectively, children and young people can potentially experience further harm.

The webinar will explore:

• Outcomes for different groups of children and young people returning to their birth families;

• What factors can challenge the success of reunification, and what pitfalls need to be avoided;

• What can facilitate positive outcomes, and what are the broader messages for social work practice.
