Social Work England: Social Work week event March 2024
Both adults and children’s social care have faced significant workforce challenges in recent years and have increasingly looked to international recruitment as a means of addressing these.
In February 2022 care workers were added to the shortage occupation list to address recruitment and workforce pressures in social care. Although the focus of the fund was on care workers, the funding also supported other staff, including nurses, social workers and occupational therapists. Funding of up to £15 million was made available over 2023-2024
A number of local authority partnerships across England have collaborated to undertake international recruitment. This is also an area in which Kings College London has undertaken research
Aim: This webinar provides an opportunity to explore lessons learnt from international recruitment across health and social care. In particular it will enable participants to:
• Explore some of the ethical issues with regards to international recruitment
• Understand the evidence base for international recruitment
• Look at different approaches to international recruitment
• Identify what “good” looks like : the importance of getting it right
• To recognise what skills are transferable? What are the learning needs for overseas workers ?
Participants will hear from local authorities who have recruited from overseas. There will also be an opportunity for an Q and A with an expert and stakeholder panel
